We are pleased to confirm that a new Fishery Order for the eastern Menai Strait was made by Lesley Griffiths MS (Minister for Rural Affairs and North Wales, and Trefnydd) and was laid before the Senedd on 4th March 2022.
The new Order takes account of the comments that were made by stakeholders during the consultation last year. In particular, the boundary along the Anglesey coastline has been amended. This is in response to concerns about interactions with existing deep water moorings that were raised by RYA Cymru and local sailing clubs.
In all other respects the new Order will provide the same secure long-term legal foundation as its predecessor, which is vital for local shellfish farmers. It is due to come into force on the 2nd of April and will endure for a period of 35 years. This is great news for the future of the Welsh shellfish farming, local businesses and livelihoods.
